What is the US frequency spectrum
As many of you are aware, the US frequency spectrum is undergoing a massive shift. Wireless is a powerful tool both in performance and presentation. It has become so commonplace now, that we must all be aware of its functionality and physical attributes.
So what is the US frequency Spectrum? According to Collins English dictionary,( https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/frequency-spectrum) frequency as is applies to wireless technology is a full-range audio device capable of capturing, reproducing, or processing the full audio frequency spectrum of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The frequency spectrum of an electrical signal is the distribution of the amplitudes and phases of each frequency component against frequency. Audio devices operate within this spectrum to transport information that is encoded on one end, and decoded on the other. The signal is then translated to reproductive sound through the use of amplifiers, speakers, and sound waves, until it reaches our ear. While you don’t necessarily need to know the specific mechanics, you do need to be aware that these changes affect wireless communication for live events.
The Federal Communications Commission (https://www.fcc.gov) regulates who gets to use what within the frequency spectrum. We all must share this space. Remember, cell phones, radio, digital television, military and emergency communications all operate within 20 Hz to 20 KHz. So when it comes to wireless microphones, we all need to be aware of what is going on around us. You may not have that much traffic in rural America, but in larger cities such as New York or Chicago, there is a lot passing through our airspace.
David Productions has teamed up with Venue & RF Explorer in order to provide spectrum scanning, analysis, and deployment for live events. It is imperative that this new workflow is implemented to provide a dropout free performance from technology such as wireless mics, in-ear monitors, backstage communication, wireless video, and others.
